Executive Committee Holds March Meeting
Lewisburg, TN - The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) Executive Committee held its latest meeting March 22, 2010, at association headquarters in Lewisburg, Tennessee. Following the roll call, approval of the agenda, and approval of the minutes from the February 22, 2010 meeting, Admin/Fiscal VP Rob Cornelius presented the 2009 Audit for approval and presented for approval the financials from the period ending February 28, 2010. The statement for the period ending February 28, 2010, revealed a $10,861 lost for the month with an $8,988 loss for the year against an anticipated loss of $30,779. The Annual Audit and the February financials were approved unanimously.
In his remarks, President David Pruett expressed gratitude to the staff for their continued dedication to the success of the Association. He also said that registrations were up and that transfers, for the first time in several months were up for the month. “However membership is still down and we are addressing that every day. “ said Pruett.
Senior Vice President Dee Dee Sale also acknowledged the efforts of the staff and congratulated the trainers on a successful Trainers Show.
Speaking next, Executive Director Stan Butt acknowledged the success of TWHBEA at the American Youth Horse Council in Lexington, KY; addressed the efforts to increase membership through the Broad of Directors, and reported on the compliment from Wisconsin Director, Kim Sizer about the promotional DVD that was sent to her for their annual meeting and banquet.
In the first standing committee report of the day, Member At Large Youth Vice President Margo Urad discussed the success at the American Youth Horse Council. She also reported that her committee was working on a silent auction for the May board of directors meeting.
Trainers Vice President Wayne Dean reported on the success of the National Trainers’ Show. He also discussed the need for sponsorships for the Youth Challenge program.
Performance Horse Vice President Ty Irby discussed the Trainers’ Show and reported that several Certified Riding Instructors are in need of performance horses.
Owners’/Exhibitor’s Vice President Stephen Brown reported that TWHBEA had been invited to participate in the San Marcos Horse Fair in Mexico in 2011.
Marketing Vice President Marty Irby discussed plans for a clinic featuring Tracy Pinson that will be held during the Fun Show to benefit the Bedford Cancer Board. Marketing Director Chris Coffey then reported on the ongoing success of the GO! Gelding Program and upcoming promotional efforts including Equine Affaire, the trail ride at Circle E in Belvidere, Tennessee, and the International Equestrian Festival.
Pleasure Horse Vice President Rick Wies reported on the new achievement levels being offered as part of the Versatility Program. He also discussed the possibility of adding a division to include multi-breed challenge competitions such as Extreme Cowboy Race and Three Phase Event.
Horse Shows Vice President Bruce Vaughn reported on the success of the Trainers’ Show and stated that his committee had approved a regional futurity in Kentucky. He also reported that at the 2010 National Futurity, weanlings would be splint into fall and spring crops.
Equine Welfare Vice President Dr. Linda Montgomery suggested that an ad be run in the Voice letting people know that they could contact the Equine Welfare Committee if they have horse in need of re-homing.
Administrative/Fiscal/Audit Vice President Rob Cornelius reported that Freda Dean had been working with the tax assessor’s office to get the association’s property taxes adjusted and that she had been successful.
The next meeting of the TWHBEA Executive Committee Meeting will be held April 19, 2010 at association headquarters in Lewisburg, Tennessee.
